2016-2017

Context of school

·         Granton Primary School is a three- form entry school with 583 pupils on roll.

·         50% of the pupils on roll are girls.  This is in the 2nd quintile nationally.

·         The proportion of children in receipt of Free School Meals is 26% which is significantly above the national average and is in the highest quintile nationally.

·         The proportion of children from Minority Ethnic Groups is above the national average and those with English as an Additional Language is above the national average (62%).  Both are in the highest quintile nationally.

·         The proportion of pupils with SEN support has shown an increase since 2016 (from 12.7% to 17.3%) and is above the national average.

·         The proportion of pupils with an SEN statement or EHC plan is below the national average (0.9%).

·         Deprivation is in the second quintile nationally.

·         The proportion of children in receipt of Free School Meals is particularly high in Years 3-6 (between 44% to 59%, Years 1-2 is 22%.

·         The percentage of children whose first language is not English is high across the school, and at its highest in current Years 2,3, and 6(bet 66-70%).

·         The Any Other White Background population make up 26% of the school population and is the highest Minority Ethnic Group. Pupils of Black or Black British African heritage make up 18% of the school population. White British pupils make up 11% of the pupil population.

·         There is a higher percentage of high attaining pupils in the current Year 6 (0.1- 0.5 difference from national) compared to other year groups in the school.

Year 6

Tae Kwon Do

Pupils in year 6 are split into 4 groups and taught Taekwondo over a four day period every week (mon-thurs) between 8.15am-8.45am. Children then have the choice if they want to participate in Taekwondo team on a Friday, who will go on to participate in the patterns competition.

Children develop discipline by thoroughly training your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwondo. Children are taught self-defense by training you to recognize situations in which physical self-defence may be necessary, and teaching you how to control such situations to your advantage

Swimming

Year 3 classes are given a year’s swimming lesson., to gain the minimum national curriculum 25m badge
