Dear Parents & Carers,

TERM 6 PROGRAMME OF STUDY

English: This term, we will be focussing on the children’s writing, using the ‘Dragonology’ books to create our own information, explanation and instruction texts. Through role play and drama the children will also be creating their own narratives, learning how to develop characters, settings and plots to create spellbinding stories.

Creative Curriculum: We will be continuing with our Discovery topic – learning about carnivals and STOMP, with a focus on the Year 6 continent of ‘Africa’. Children will have the opportunity to create and present their own dance routines, as well as participating in a school wide festival at the end of the term.

Science: In Science we will be learning about ‘Inheritance’. Children will investigate which characteristics can be inherited and which ones can be learnt.

Year 6 Production: We are very excited to be putting on a Leaver’s Production of ‘Motown’! The children will be preparing for this over the next few weeks; if you wish to help at home, the songs and their lyrics are on the school website. We are looking forward to sharing their talents with you at the end of the term.

Home Learning: This is an important element of your child’s education and we encourage you to please look at the exciting projects for home learning this term that can be found at the back of your child's Home School diary. Tasks outlined in the blue boxes are compulsory. Home learning can be shared in any way – through a model, photographs, piece of writing, drawing, film etc. It can also be emailed to Y6GPS@outlook.com. If access to the Internet is a difficulty, please remember that the library is open on Saturday mornings between 10.30am and 1pm.

Please remember that Year 6 students start their school day at 8am. During this time, students will be taking part in PE lessons and receiving extra support in SPAG. Children will be provided with breakfast and should arrive in their PE kits with a full school uniform to change into. Please support this program by ensuring your child arrives at school on time.

Thank you for your continued support, as always.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Hariram                             Miss Wilson                             Mr Starr                       Mrs Anning
