Dear Parent and Carers,

TERM 6 PROGRAMME OF STUDY

Maths

In Maths this term we will be focussing on multiplication, division, geometry and measurement. These units will be taught through problem solving activities. The children will also be learning their 7, 8 and 9 times tables. Please practice your times tables with the whole family.

English

We will be following the National curriculum in English. We will be looking at issues/dilemmas, poetry, historical settings and explanation texts. We will be looking at current issues effecting the environment in South America. Students will be researching and publishing their own fictional texts, linked to our topic. Throughout the term children will also have regular sessions covering grammar, spelling and phonics.

Creative Curriculum

Our topic this term is Environment. Through this theme children will learn all about South America, looking specifically at culture, lifestyle, dens, carnivals and arts. Students will be researching, designing and creating artistic banners/ head pieces which will be used in a whole school parade. We will be composing a stomp performance linked to South America.

Physical Education

Y4AW & Y4JK: PE will be every Monday and Friday. Y4JY: PE will be every Monday and Wednesday. Children require a plain white T-Shirt, shorts (Jogging bottoms in colder weather) and trainers. Please ensure that all items of clothing are named.

Our home learning projects are outlined on the next page. Home learning in Year 4 will be shared and celebrated every Friday.

Please encourage your child to read daily, signing or commenting in your child’s home school diary. We will be writing individual reading targets for your child, it would be wonderful for you to continue to support your child with their target at home.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
