Dear Parent and Carers,

TERM 6 PROGRAMME OF STUDY

Maths

We will be following the National curriculum which will cover number and place value, partitioning and calculating. Topics will also include handling data where children will collect information and learn to present it in different ways. We will have daily mental maths warm ups and will be working on counting in steps of 2’s, 5’s, 8’s, 3’s and 4’s. In addition the children will undertake maths problem solving activities where they will be able to use and apply their maths knowledge.

English

We will be following the National curriculum and will be covering Information texts, where children will learn more about Oceania and create a persuasive leaflet. We will also be studying a poetry unit where we will focus on word play and children will have a chance to play with words and write their own riddles. Information Texts

4 weeks - could do this in term 6 to make a persuasive advert for our product/service

Poems to Perform

1 week - could do this towards the end of term 6 or we will have about 2 /3 ...weeks we could do a nice short talk for writing unit!

Throughout the term children will also have regular sessions covering grammar, spelling and phonics.

Creative Curriculum

We will be continuing our topic this term on ‘The Environment’ with a focus on Oceania. We will be looking at how to improve and sustain our environment with a focus on water in the environment. Children will have an opportunity to research and learn about different aspects of Oceania including homes and food! In science children will be studying plants.

We will also be designing banners and head dresses for a whole school carnival at the end of the term where we will be celebrating all the different continents we have been learning about across the school.

PE will be every Thursday. Children require a plain white T-Shirt, shorts (Jogging bottoms in colder weather) and trainers. Please ensure that all items of clothing are named.

Children will continue swimming on the following days: Y3JH: Monday; Y3BL: Wednesday; Y3SJ: Friday

Our home learning projects are outlined on the next page. Home learning in Year 3 will be shared and celebrated every Friday. Please encourage your child to read daily, signing or commenting in your child’s reading record.
