Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome back – we hope you all had a restful Spring Break and are feeling ready for the term ahead!

Topics: As part of our whole school Creative Curriculum we are looking at ‘The Environment’. In Early Years, we will be focusing on growth and changes within ourselves and the environment. We will be learning how to care for living things by growing fruits, plants and vegetables, tying in with a focus on Healthy Eating. Some of our core texts this term include Jaspers Beanstalk, The Tiny Seed and The Enormous Turnip.

Mathematics: This term we will be focusing on recognising and ordering numbers to 20, adding and subtracting by counting on and back; and solving problems using doubling, halving and sharing. We will also be comparing and solving problems with length, weight, capacity and height as well as creating and describing repeating patterns. We will be using mathematical language to name and describe 2D and 3D shapes.

Phonics: Your child has been streamed into phased groups based on their individual needs. Please check the home school diaries for information about what Phase they are working on and how you can help them progress.

Literacy: We will be focusing on writing for a variety of purposes, i.e. instructions, lists, stories, recipes and signs. We will be practicing completing sustained writing tasks (i.e. more than one sentence) using our letter sounds and tricky words. We will practice reading and understanding simple sentences using our phonics knowledge and recognising tricky words.

As always, we will endeavour to read with your child each week, change their book and write a comment in their home/school diary. It is important that you communicate your comments in the diary when you read with your child and any other information you might need to share with us.

Please remember to send us photos and videos from home!

Thank you for your continued support.
